Frequently asked questions

Is hypnosis safe?

Absolutely. Hypnosis is a safe, natural state that people drift in and out of every day—like when you’re daydreaming or fully absorbed in a good book. It is not mind control, and you can stop at any time.

How aware am I while in hypnosis?

You’re fully aware and conscious during hypnosis. You can move, talk, and open your eyes at any time. Most people find it relaxing and enjoy the experience.

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural, relaxed state of focused attention. In this state, your mind becomes more open to positive suggestions and new ways of thinking. You remain in control at all times—it’s not about being “asleep” or “out of it,” but about being more receptive to change.  Hypnotherapy works by accessing the subconscious mind to shift deep-seated patterns. It’s commonly used for anxiety, stress, habits, phobias, self-confidence, and more.

Will I lose control or reveal secrets?

No. You remain fully aware and in control during the entire session. You decide what you share, and you can stop the process at any time. Many clients say they feel calm, comfortable, and in charge throughout.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies depending on your goal. Some clients notice improvement after just one session, while others benefit from a short series of sessions. I’ll recommend a plan that’s tailored to you after our first meeting,

Some people notice change in 1–3 sessions, others benefit from a longer process. I will guide you based on your progress and the issue being addressed.

What if hypnosis doesn’t work for me?

Most people can experience hypnosis, but the results depend on your willingness and commitment to the process. My role is to guide you; your role is to be open to change. If I feel hypnosis isn’t the right fit for you, I’ll always be honest about it.

Do you offer Past Life Regression?

What can hypnosis help with?

I work with clients for a wide range of issues, including:

  • Stress and anxiety

  • Phobias and fears

  • Building confidence and self-esteem

  • Weight management

  • Breaking unwanted habits (e.g., nail biting, smoking)

  • Pain management

  • Past Life Regression (for personal insight and exploration)

If you’re unsure whether hypnosis can help your situation, just ask—I can advise whether it’s the right approach for you.

What happens during my first session?

We start with a relaxed conversation about what you’d like to achieve. I’ll explain the process and answer any questions. Then we’ll begin the hypnosis session, which is simply a guided process that helps you enter a comfortable, focused state.  A typical session begins with a chat about your goals.  I explain the process and then gently guides you into hypnosis. You may visualise, imagine, or simply feel deeply calm. Afterwards, we’ll talk through your experience and next steps.

Can I do hypnosis online?

Yes. I offer online hypnosis sessions via Zoom for clients in New Zealand and around the world. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person sessions, and you can enjoy them from the comfort of your own home.

What qualifications do you have?

  • Dip. Hyp (Diploma in Hypnotherapy)

  • Dip. Clin. Hyp (Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy)

  • Dip. Adv. Hyp (Advanced Diploma)

  • American School of Hypnotherapy for Past life Regression

Please note the following.

Can I book a hypnotherapy session for someone if they don’t want to go?

No. Hypnotherapy requires the full consent and willingness of the person receiving the session. Without their agreement, the process will not be effective and is not ethically appropriate.

Why does the person need to want the session?

Hypnosis is not mind control. It is a collaborative process where the client remains aware and actively participates. If someone is resistant or unwilling, their subconscious will simply not engage.

What if I’m booking because I care and want to help?

Your intention may come from love, concern, or frustration — and that’s completely understandable. However, lasting change can only happen when the individual is personally ready and motivated to participate.

Can I book the session and surprise them?

No. Surprise sessions are not recommended and will not be accepted. Informed consent is required before any hypnotherapy session can take place.

What if the person is curious but unsure?

That’s a great starting point. If they are open to learning more, they are welcome to:

  • Ask questions via email
  • Attend an introductory or information session

Curiosity is often the first step toward readiness.

Can I attend the session with them?

In some cases (such as children or specific support needs), this may be discussed in advance. For adults, hypnotherapy is typically conducted one-on-one to ensure safety, privacy, and effectiveness.

What if I think they really need help but won’t agree?

This can be incredibly hard. While you cannot make someone change, you can:

  • Focus on your own wellbeing

  • Learn tools to respond differently

  • Stop carrying responsibility for someone else’s healing

Sometimes, when one person changes, the dynamic around them shifts naturally.

Will you contact the person on my behalf?

No. Any contact, booking, or consent must come directly from the individual who will be receiving the hypnotherapy.

How do I book a session?

You can book online or contact me directly. If you’re new to hypnosis, I recommend starting with a free 15-minute consultation to see if we’re a good fit.
